The animal suffering in Kosovo is enormous. According to estimates, between 35,000 and 40,000 homeless dogs and cats roam around, which is an enormous number. These animals live outdoors, in villages, mountains, and cities, often along busy roads while trying to find food.

Every day, dozens of animals die from starvation, disease, and also from being hit by cars. Many volunteers, both from Kosovo and abroad, have made appeals on social media to take action and address this problem. Our foundation has responded to these appeals and works together with them to address this problem.

How we do this, you can read below!

Sterilization

Our top priority is the intensive sterilization of animals. In this way, we aim to prevent the birth of many new animals that would face a miserable future. We will support the local veterinarians and provide them with the supplies they need to do their work. This way, people with a stray animal in need of care can receive help free of charge. In our first year (2024), we sterilized no fewer than 1,200 dogs in just 8 months. A great start, but we are far from finished. In 2025, we aim to help 5,000 animals. This requires a lot of funding, not only from our donors but also from the local population and government. Together, we make it possible. Do you think sterilization is important? You can sponsor a sterilization! We pay the veterinarians a fixed agreed amount per procedure. €45,- per dog and €25,- per cat.

Education

We continuously inform the government, the public, and our partners to raise awareness about animal welfare. In doing so, we actively encourage the public to participate and develop a different perspective on animals. In addition, our team visits schools in Kosovo to provide guidance on the safe handling of animals both on the streets and at home. Children are the future and an important key to structurally improving the lives of animals. By focusing on the topic of animals on television and organizing information campaigns in schools, we aim to inform people that an animal is not dirty and can lead a good life with proper care. Leaving animals on the streets without care can lead to the spread of diseases.

Shelter

In addition, we want to help sick, injured, and young animals. We regularly find young animals without a mother. Young animals are doomed without our help. We do not have a shelter on-site ourselves, but fortunately, there are volunteers and veterinarians in Kosovo who help care for weakened animals and ensure they can recover. With your support, we can provide the volunteers and veterinarians with food and other necessities, such as treatments against parasites. Check DONATE for the option to make a direct donation or transfer an amount of your choice to NL52 ABNA 0131437534 in the name of Animals Kosovo. Collaboration

Collaboration is crucial for the success of our project. We attach great importance to a strong local network. Veterinarians, volunteers, local authorities, and media are essential in achieving our goals. Our aim is to have as many animals as possible neutered within their own municipality, in collaboration with the local authorities. We advise against starting shelters, as they often result in the long-term confinement of dogs that are perfectly capable of surviving on the streets.
